Deep in the Woods

It was deep in the woods

Where no one heard me scream

Where no one heard me weep

Where no one saw my tears

They didn’t because the woods were too thick

Tree after tree after tree…

Lie after lie after lie…

It was deep in the woods

Where not the slimmest moonbeam could be seen

Where darkness reigned over all

Where the night was eternal

Always dark because too much light might reveal the woods’ secrets

No sun, no moon, no stars…

No truth, no justice, no hope…

But it was deep in the woods

Where I found my strength

Where I found my courage

Where I found my virtue

Despite scratches from hateful branches

Despite rashes from envious ivy

For without my journey

Deep in the woods,

I could never admire the forest glen

Fireflies sparkling in the meadow

Lilies blossoming by the pond

For without the darkness

Deep in the woods,

My lantern could never have lighted  my way
